University of South Florida Department of English alumna Jaquira Díaz is winner of a 2020 Whiting Award in Nonfiction for her memoir Ordinary Girls. Diaz earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from USF.

“Female Education”, authored by Rita Ciresi, a professor of English at the University of South Florida, was recently awarded the 2019 Wordrunner eChapbook Prize. “Female Education” offers 14 thought-provoking flash fictions that deal with love, loss, and the hard choices women make.
